Project Installation Technician

This is a full-time position supporting the systems integration activities in the Northeast Region (Maine, Upstate New York, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts).  This position will focus on operational support and installation of theatrical equipment onsite, in customer venues.  A successful candidate will be a motivated individual who is interested in providing best in class customer service and has the technical skills to complete project installations on time and on budget.

Reports to: Manager of Professional Services

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform Installation of Theatrical Equipment in construction and finished environments.  Installations shall include, but are not limited to:
  • Theatrical Lighting Fixture Hang and Focus
  • Theatrical Rigging Dead Hung Pipe Installation
  • Theatrical Curtain Installation 
  • Coordinate and participate in field coordination meetings, such as submittal drawing reviews, rigging site measurements, and pre-start up meetings.
  • Assist in field service start-ups of lighting systems.  This includes termination of network, DMX, and other low voltage wiring.
  • Work with outside vendors to arrange for parts, supplies and additional repair services. 
  • Assist in invoicing for project and service activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities for VLS employees but supervision of contracted freelance crew is necessary

Qualifications and Education:

  • A Bachelor of Arts in Technical Theatre is desirable. 
  • Must have good communication skills (both written and verbal). 
  • Must have excellent customer service skills (both written and verbal). 
  • Must have good organizational skills, being prompt and accurate in submitting service reports, invoicing, as well as monthly expense reports.
  • Must have valid Driver’s License and have good driving record.
  • Must be able to pass local, state, school and federal background checks, as required by project.
  • Must be able to pass 5-panel drug screen.
  • Working knowledge of lighting systems and their proper application is strongly desirable. 
  • Previous knowledge and experience of proper operation of lighting control equipment is strongly preferred.
  • ETCP certification is strongly preferred.   If candidate does not have ETCP certification at time of hire, certification must be obtained within 12 months of hiring.
  • Experience with Freshdesk, QuickBooks recommended but not required.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires on site visits to construction sites and completed venues.  This trips can range from single day trips to weeklong installation trips. Mileage and applicable expenses will be reimbursed by VLS for these trips, if applicable.
